my very first TT header
Thirteen jobs I have had or wouldn't want to have ... ever, ever!

  1. I child minded after school each day.
  2. I worked as a barmaid in .... oh, let me see, too many bars to count.
  3. And a checkout operator at 2 seperate supermarkets.
  4. And a shelf stacker at a different supermarket.
  5. And I painted maps for the Civil Service.
  6. I worked as a receptionist in a Tourist Office.
  7. And as a teacher, in 2 schools to date.
  8. BUT, I would never, ever want to be a nurse. It's not the blood you understand it's the other bodily fluids / solids!
  9. Or a vet, ditto the fluids / solids.
  10. Or a sewer / drain cleaner ... can you see a squeamish about mucky stuff pattern developing here?
  11. Or a chiropodist, other people's feet *shudder*
  12. Or a holiday company representative, people on holiday having a good time and complaining, complaining, complaining to me. No thanks!!
  13. Or a headteacher, give me kids over staff anyday!

So, what about you?
Go on, tell me about a job you've done and a
job you'd never, ever, ever do!

I work in the restaurant industry, which I enjoy, but I was the Easter Bunny at the mall, and I would NEVER ever, do that again!

Happy TT!

#13 LOL I'll second that! The only thing worse than a room full of hyped up 9th graders is a room full of 9th grade teachers! Or teacher period!

I was a cocktail waitress for awhile and am now in my second year of teaching...love(d) them both.

I can get behind many of those. I couldn't be a medical professional because I'm wa-a-ay too empathic. I can't even read a medical thriller without freaking out over the descriptions of broken bones, intense pain from injuries, what have you. I'd also want to take home just about every cat I worked with at the animal shelter.

I did my time in retail-purgatory, and it's made me extra-appreciative. When the day's hectic and nasty, I let them know that I appreciate their help and sympathize with their exasperation. It usually makes them smile just a little tiny bit. The customers who really thanked me sincerely sometimes made the difference between a tolerable shift and stomach pains that evening.

I could have been a nurse for children, but not a vet. I think I couldn't afford suffering animals.

In our family we have two "family businesses"; nursing and teaching. I feel the same way about bodily stuff as you do. Guess which side of the family business I chose?

Not sure how it happened, but I am a restaurant manager hoping to be an owner/operator. On the way I have...

grocery bagger/cashier/service manager
youth minister
video store manager
pizza driver
accounting clerk
marketing assistant
PBX operator
valet parking attendant
freelance photographer
promotions intern for a radio station
pharmaceutical rep
christian bookstore manager
waiter (2 weeks)
convenience store manager (overnights)

all this and I have a degree in Advertising and Public Relations. I do a lot of relating to the public. :)

Didn't know there was such a thing as a chiropodiatrist or however you spell it.

I am with you with the nurse or vet for your very same clear reasons, lol!
I couldn't be a teacher, I lack patience!!

I couldn't be a vet more because of seeing animals sick or hurt. I have cats so I clean up pooh more times than I can count.

Happy TT

I would have to agree with you on #10. There is a show here called Dirty Jobs where this guy is called upon to work a dirty job. One was a sewer inspector in San Francisco. No way, no how.

And it is my FIRM belief that EVERYone should have to be a sever in a restaurant. It will make everyone value their service, and appreciate the tip a lot more.

Thanks for stopping by.

I would/could NEVER be a nurse either for the same reason as you. And the sewer cleaner...just shoot me!
Great list.
Thanks for visiting my list.

Great list! I agree with you about the sewer worker. I hope they pay them well.

a barmaid would be interesting! I wouldn't want to be any of those other things you mentioned either...

I never want to clean motel rooms again! People can be downright disgusting.

I worked in a coffee bar and loved it... I could never be a nurse (same as your reasoning).

The worst job I ever had was at a shoe store, I spent the day picking up after people and straightening boxes. Boring!!! Even the discount didn't make it worth it.

A job I'd never want? Medical of any sort. I'm squeamish and I cry too easily because things make me sad. (Yes, I'm a wimp.) :)

I've always wanted to tend bar.

Being a in a store open to the public is my favorite occupation.

Thanks for sharing & stopping by.

Great idea...I may have to copy you on this one sometime, though I think I've actually had 13 jobs...hmm...now you've got me thinking.

Like you, I've taught and I would never want to be a nurse!! God bless 'em all. :)

I hate hospitals ~ so I'm totally with you on the nurse/doctor thing. I couldn't be around sick people all day...it would turn me into such a hypocondriac (not sure about that spelling)

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Thursday!

great list!! I completely agree, I wouldnt want to do those either!

Painting maps is something I've not heard of.

I think that I don't mind the nursing and yuck as much because you have to wear gloves and coats and stuff where as working in a bar (or in my case Starbucks) you get covered in stale coffee/beer and old food and stuff but you're not required to wear gloves and stuff.

I started child minding when I was 10yrs old & I still love it!

I couldn't ever work in a slaughter house. Never, ever!!!

enjoyed reading your blog! happy Thursday! :)

I'm a teacher--and I second the admin/headteacher comment! No way I want to be in charge--especially of people like me! (Although my two previous jobs (waitress and horseback rider) were fun--they just didn't pay enough--which is a laugh coming from someone who is now a public school teacher!)

Definitely nothing involoving bodily substances, absolutely nothing to do with feet (claws are prettier.... Actually come to think of it, nothing at all to do with humans... oops!

Anonymous said...

I've actually had a few of those jobs...but I agree with the ones you wouldn't want...neither would I.
Happy TT. :-)

My first job at 14, on Saturdays and evenings, was at a vet and I loved it. I wanted to be a vet but was put off by the 6 years at University! I've had quite a few jobs like yours along the way, but I'm now co-owner of a Social Enterprise, raising awraeness and money for cancer charities. I really love it- and more than the vet's job!

I could never be a surgeon -- too much pressure. I'm a software engineer and no bug of mine has ever killed anybody... that I know of, anyway. :/

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog.

One job I wouldn't want to have is school bus driver, cafeteria worker, or custodian. The kids take advantage of these people all the time.

I enjoyed looking at your electronic scrapbook page. I need to check into that. It looks like fun.
