Which is worse? Poor manners or poor grammar? Why?
I normally have to think about these questions long and hard but today there's no contest in my opinion. Poor manners hands down! Poor grammar can be about a lack of education or the accent, speech patterns and syntax of your locality. But poor manners are just that. There's no excuse for not saying thank you, for not holding a door open, for forgetting to say you're welcome. Manners maketh the man or the woman and they're our way of saying I respect you (whoever the other / next person is) as a human being. Here endeth the moral rant :o)

When you asked the question I immediately thought "manners" and after reading your answer it's just what I was thinking. Spot on.

i agree, manners. grammar can be learnt (how do you like that for spelling!). somewhere my english teacher is screaming.
Although I'm a bit of a grammar nazi good manners are far more important.
Miss 6.5's got a friend over today who doesn't know the meaning of the words thank you and please - I'm having to remind her all the time. Not that it'll make any difference if Mum and Dad don't care in the first place.
Well, well, this one is more difficult at second thought. To write correctly, I have to write in my own native language. Hva syne du om det? Poor manner? If a wrote laike en foraigner, is it poor manner? or Grammar?

Le Laquet, I totally agree with that, and sometimes seeing the look on peoples faces when Im with my 8yr old nephew and him saying please and thank you it is amazing. Social Etiquette oh my it's sunday morning and that's a big word (laughs) ain't taught no mo in skools ya knowz.
My bad, I couldn't resist slipping in some deliberatly stupid spellings of stuff.
The thing is many parents don't give a "shit" but of course it could never be thier little "angel" that was rude and stuff oh no, then they let rip and turn the air blue and I just shake my head and think "I rest my case".
Absolutely, poor manners in just about unforgiveable in my book. And there's no excuse for it. teaching your children how to say please and thankyou costs nothing. Sadly, the amount of adults with no manners is increasing every day.
