So .......

I have a pain at the top of my right buttock ... how should I explain that to the doctor's receptionist when I ring for an appointment?

I wouldnt bother explaining it to the receptionist. Its not their business to know. They Dont have to know whats wrong with you to make your appt with a doc... the majority are just nosey. ;)

I would say "Lower back pain"...first of all, that might make them think "kidney" rather than "butt" and they might get you in faster. And, as for me, judging from the size and composition of my butt, the upper right buttock just might be over the kidney!

I don't think they are necessarily being nosey...but if it is something you don't feel comfortable discussing, I would ask to speak to the doctor or his/her nurse if they need that information prior to your appointment.

Watch Forrest Gump first and then when you see her turn bend, over, and point to your right "butt ock"

ccurtao = certainly curtains under rails turn all over

I remember being totally terrified by the receptionist at my Doctors when I was younger, she was like totally in your business, "WHY do you need to see Doctor?"

They must all be like that! Is it a job requirement?

Tell her nothing!

Do you have to explain it to the receptionist why you need an appointment? Is it different up there than it is down here? I don't ask the patients unless they're telling me it's urgent and I have no appts left. And then I only do it if they're trying to get an appt for their kids.

Saying that, I do get told many things I'd rather not hear. Some people offer up the information before I have the chance to stop them and put them through to the nurse lol

I'd go with Di's suggestion and tell them it's lower back pain, especially if it's causing you discomfort walking. After seeing my ex-husband in pain because of his back over the course of several years, I always make sure I squash those patients in.

Hey, maybe you should just ring ME?? Besides, I know why you need an appointment now, so you wouldn't have to tell me lol

Surprisingly there is one receptionist that is NOT commenting!

now how did she get her comment in before mine when it wasn't there when I wrote as obviously I would not have written it if it had been there!!

Say it's suspected sciatica. Or a strained gluteal muscle. She probably won't know what you're talking about either way!
