Reports are like Parents' Evening - after the first four or five, you find yourself repeating stock phrases. Have you tried Teachit.com. They used to have a handy sheet with such useful phrases as: Joey is a very sociable person (translation: Joey talks too much and is unable to concentrate in class for very long).
I once spent an ENTIRE weekend writng the most professional mid year reports for our about to leave Year 11s. I got complimented by the Deputy Head, but not one parent turned up for Parents' Evening the following week.

Katya - write reports for customers/suppliers ...... just for your enjoyment!

ms.mac - why are the parents in my class not so understanding? HELP!!

dotty - I couldn't agree more BUT (and here is the crux of the matter) new head, 9th year of reports & 11 children whose siblings have previously been in a class of mine (including 1 whose brother was in my class @ a previous school .... remind me to move further next time!) *concentrating hard* how do I say "your child is a gobby, lazy little dear who (because he is good looking, chatty and already charming i.e. flirts with table legs); could rule the world if he put in some kind of effort ?? I know ... hard one! I'd call it a "3 large brandies" answer myself!

Poor you. Not been there yet and it is one of the jobs I do not relish. I used to be a SNA before doing this and When I left the class wrote me a report... not all good. probably due to me locking her in the cupboard co she kept interupting me at story time insted of tidying her stock cupboard. Good luck... enjoy the brandies

I couldn't teach primary for the world. Although the kids are much more responsive and cuter, the work that's involved is unbelievable. I thought secondary was hard until I saw what primary teachers had to produce.
But hey, the summer holidays are close at hand. Six weeks of nothing to look forward to. Enjoy it.
